This unique bar sits on the ground floor of the Speakeasy Inn on the upper end of Duval Street, Key West’s main artery*. The vibe is laid back with good music and plenty of conversation amongst the visitors and locals. The saying is true: Come in strangers, leave as friends/family. The bartenders are always eager to give you details about the different rums and help you make a selection if needed. The Rum Bar is located in an historic building with two unusual features. As you approach the Inn, notice the balastrades** around the second floor balcony. The home owner Raul Vasquez brought these back from Cuba so he could advertise the fact that there was alcohol and gambling available during Prohibition. This rum runner also brought back rum from Cuba. He needed to stash his smuggled rum, so it was stored in the basement. The home has one of the few basements in Key West!
